Description

This Texas Roadhouse Butter Chicken Skillet recipe combines juicy bite-sized chicken pieces with a rich, creamy, and cheesy sauce infused with smoky and spicy flavors. It’s a comforting and flavorful dish perfect for an easy weeknight dinner, best served with mashed potatoes, rice, or warm dinner rolls to soak up the luscious sauce.

Ingredients

Scale

Chicken and Seasonings

  • 1 1/2 pound boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional, for heat)
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

For Cooking and Sauce

  • 3 tablespoon unsalted butter, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • Optional: Sliced green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Season Chicken: In a bowl, toss the chicken pieces with garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, cayenne pepper (if using), salt, and black pepper. This seasoning blend will infuse the chicken with irresistible flavor.
  2. Sear Chicken: Heat the olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned chicken and cook until browned and cooked through, about 5-7 minutes. Remove the chicken from the skillet and set it aside.
  3. Make Sauce: In the same skillet, add the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and the chicken broth. Scrape up any browned bits from the bottom of the pan, as these will add depth to the sauce. Stir in the heavy cream and bring the mixture to a simmer.
  4. Add Cheese: Gradually stir in the shredded cheddar cheese until it’s melted and the sauce is smooth and creamy.
  5. Combine & Finish: Return the cooked chicken to the skillet and toss it to coat in the buttery, cheesy sauce. Simmer for an additional 2-3 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the dish to heat through.
  6. Garnish & Serve: Sprinkle the fresh parsley and optional sliced green onions over the top of the Texas Roadhouse Butter Chicken Skillet. Serve the dish hot, accompanied by your choice of mashed potatoes, rice, or warm dinner rolls for a truly satisfying meal.

Notes

  • For extra heat, do not omit the cayenne pepper, or add more according to your preference.
  • Make sure to scrape the browned bits from the skillet when making the sauce to boost flavor.
  • You can substitute cheddar cheese with Monterey Jack or mozzarella for a different cheesy flavor.
  • Serve with mashed potatoes, steamed rice, or warm dinner rolls to make the meal complete.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
