For the Soft Maple Cookie Base:
- 1 cup (225g) unsalted butter, softened
- 2 cups (400g) granulated sugar
- 3 large eggs
- 1 cup (240ml) buttermilk (or substitute: 1 cup milk + 1 tbsp lemon juice or vinegar)
- ½ tsp salt
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 2 tsp maple extract
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- 4½ cups (540g) all-purpose flour
For the Silky Maple Icing:
- ½ cup (115g) unsalted butter
- 1 cup (200g) brown sugar
- ¼ cup (60ml) milk
- 2 tbsp pure maple syrup
- A pinch of salt
- 2 cups (240g) powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare the Cookie Dough: Preheat the oven. Cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, buttermilk, and extracts. Mix in dry ingredients.
- Bake the Cookies: Drop dough onto sheets. Bake until set. Cool on wire racks.
- Prepare the Maple Icing: Melt butter and sugar, add milk, syrup, and salt. Cool slightly. Add powdered sugar to reach desired consistency.
- Ice the Cookies: Spread icing over cooled cookies. Allow to set before storing.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, use real maple syrup in the icing.
- Store the cookies in a single layer to prevent sticking.
