  • Author: Zoe
  • Total Time: 45 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This Kielbasa and Potatoes Skillet recipe is a hearty, flavorful one-pan meal featuring browned kielbasa sausage, tender potatoes, and aromatic onions and garlic. Cooked on the stovetop, it’s a comforting dish perfect for a quick weeknight dinner that combines savory sausage with seasoned potatoes in a simple skillet method.

Ingredients

Scale

Meat

  • 16 oz. kielbasa sausage

Vegetables

  • 1 ¼ pounds potatoes (about 5 medium-sized), chopped into bite-sized pieces
  • 1 Vidalia onion, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced

Spices

  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ⅓ tsp Kosher salt
  • ¼ tsp oregano or Italian seasoning

Instructions

  1. Preheat Skillet: Preheat a large skillet over medium-high heat to get it ready for cooking the kielbasa sausage.
  2. Brown the Kielbasa: Slice the kielbasa sausage into pieces and add them to the hot skillet. Stir occasionally to ensure even browning, cooking for about 6 minutes until nicely browned. Remove the kielbasa from the skillet and set aside, leaving the rendered fat in the pan.
  3. Prepare Vegetables: While the kielbasa is browning, chop the Vidalia onion and potatoes into bite-sized pieces for even cooking.
  4. Cook the Potatoes: Add the chopped potatoes to the skillet with the kielbasa grease. Sprinkle with paprika, kosher salt, and oregano or Italian seasoning. Stir well to coat the potatoes evenly in the fat. Reduce heat to medium or medium-low and cover the skillet. Cook the potatoes for about 13 minutes, stirring regularly to prevent sticking and ensure even cooking.
  5. Sauté Onions and Garlic: Add the chopped onions and minced garlic to the skillet with the potatoes. Cover and cook for about 12 minutes, stirring regularly, until the potatoes are tender and the onions are translucent and cooked through.
  6. Combine and Finish Cooking: Return the browned kielbasa to the skillet with the potatoes and onions. Mix everything well and cook for an additional 4 minutes to allow flavors to meld and heat through.

Notes

  • Using Vidalia onions adds a subtle sweetness that complements the savory kielbasa.
  • Covering the skillet while cooking potatoes ensures they soften evenly without drying out.
  • Regular stirring prevents potatoes from sticking to the pan and promotes even cooking.
  • Feel free to substitute oregano with your preferred Italian seasoning blend.
  • This dish pairs well with a simple green salad or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
