Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (240 g) or oat flour (240 g) for wheat-sensitive dogs
- ½ cup rolled oats (45 g)
Wet Ingredients
- 1 large egg
- ½ cup (120 ml) low-sodium chicken broth (no onion, garlic, or harmful additives)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil (15 ml)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and rolled oats, stirring to blend evenly.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Crack in the egg, add the olive oil, then pour in the chicken broth. Stir everything together using a wooden spoon until the mixture is combined.
- Adjust Dough Consistency: The dough should form a firm, slightly dry ball that is not sticky. If the dough is too dry or crumbly, add more broth one tablespoon at a time up to two tablespoons. If it’s too wet or sticky, sprinkle in flour one tablespoon at a time until workable.
- Knead Lightly: Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead gently for 1–2 minutes until the dough is smooth and pliable.
- Roll Out Dough: Use a rolling pin to roll the dough to about ¼ inch (6 mm) thickness for even baking.
- Cut Shapes: Use cookie cutters or a knife to cut the dough into shapes such as bones, circles, or squares. Arrange the biscuits on the prepared baking sheet with space between them.
- Bake Biscuits: For soft biscuits, bake for 15–18 minutes until the centers are set. For crunchy biscuits, bake for 20–25 minutes until golden and firm to touch.
- Cool Completely: Transfer the biscuits to a wire rack and let them cool fully to become crisp and safe for your dog’s teeth.
Notes
- Use only low-sodium chicken broth without onions, garlic, or harmful additives safe for dogs.
- Store baked biscuits in an airtight container at room temperature for 5–7 days.
- Freeze extra biscuits up to 2 months and thaw as needed.
- Reheat frozen biscuits in the oven for a few minutes to restore crispness.
- These treats should be given in moderation as a supplement, not a substitute for regular meals.
- If your dog has wheat sensitivity, substitute whole wheat flour with oat flour.
