Easy Coffee Truffles Recipe

  • Author: Zoe
  • Total Time: 3 hours
  • Yield: About 20 truffles 1x

Description

These Easy Coffee Truffles combine rich dark chocolate with the bold flavor of instant coffee, coated in smooth milk chocolate for a delightful treat. Perfect for coffee lovers and anyone craving a luxurious homemade chocolate dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Filling

  • 90 ml (⅓ cup + 2 tsp) thickened or whipping cream (minimum 35% fat)
  • 200 g (7 oz) dark cooking chocolate (40% cocoa solids), finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon instant coffee granules

Coating

  • 125 g (4.5 oz) milk cooking chocolate

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dish: Line a small, flat dish with non-stick baking paper to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the truffle mixture.
  2. Heat the cream: In a small saucepan, warm the cream over low heat until it is just below boiling point to avoid scalding while preparing the base for the truffles.
  3. Make the truffle mixture: Turn off the heat, then add the chopped dark chocolate and instant coffee granules to the cream. Stir until the mixture is smooth and fully combined.
  4. Chill the mixture: Pour the mixture into the lined dish and refrigerate for about 2 hours or until it firms up enough to handle.
  5. Form truffle balls: Scoop about 3 teaspoons of the chilled mixture and roll it into small balls. Place each ball on a lined baking tray and chill for another 30 minutes to firm up.
  6. Melt the coating chocolate: Melt the milk cooking chocolate over simmering water, stirring occasionally to ensure even melting, then allow it to cool for 15 minutes to reach the right consistency for dipping.
  7. Coat the truffles: Dip each truffle ball into the melted milk chocolate to fully coat, then place them back on the tray to set.
  8. Set the coating: Refrigerate the coated truffles for 30 minutes or until the chocolate coating is firm. Store the finished truffles in an airtight container in the fridge until ready to serve.

Notes

  • Use good-quality dark and milk cooking chocolates for the best flavor and texture.
  • Ensure the cream is just below boiling to prevent separating the mixture.
  • Work quickly when rolling the truffle balls to keep them firm and easier to handle.
  • Store truffles in the refrigerator and consume within one week for optimal freshness.
  • For a stronger coffee flavor, increase the instant coffee granules to 1.5 tablespoons.
