Ingredients
Scale
Cinnamon Rolls
- 2 tubes refrigerated cinnamon rolls (8 cinnamon rolls each, 351 grams or 12 oz)
- ¼ cup salted butter (melted)
Custard Mixture
- ½ cup milk
- ½ cup pure maple syrup
- 3 eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Topping
- Reserved frosting from cinnamon roll package
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly spray a 9×13″ baking dish with nonstick spray. Pour the melted butter into the baking dish or alternatively place a stick of butter in the oven to melt during preheating.
- Prepare cinnamon rolls: Remove the cinnamon rolls from the packaging, carefully reserving the frosting packet for later use.
- Cut and arrange rolls: Cut each cinnamon roll into approximately ¾-inch pieces and spread them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Mix custard and pour: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, pure maple syrup, eggs, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until fully combined and smooth. Pour this custard mixture evenly over the cinnamon roll pieces in the baking dish, ensuring they soak well.
- Bake the casserole: Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 35-45 minutes, or until the top is lightly golden brown and the casserole has puffed up.
- Cool and serve: Allow the casserole to cool for 10 to 15 minutes. Drizzle the reserved frosting generously over the top before serving for a sweet finishing touch.
Notes
- Make sure to whisk the eggs thoroughly to get a smooth custard mixture.
- You can use light or dark maple syrup depending on your sweetness preference.
- Allow the casserole to cool slightly before adding the frosting to avoid it melting completely.
- For extra flavor, sprinkle additional cinnamon or chopped nuts on top before baking.
- This casserole is best served warm and can be stored covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
