  • Author: Zoe
  • Total Time: 50 minutes
  • Yield: 8 servings 1x

Description

This Cinnamon Roll Apple Lasagna is a decadent, layered dessert combining soft cinnamon rolls, tender sautéed apples with warm spices, and creamy frosting. Baked to golden perfection and topped with optional nuts, it offers a delightful twist on traditional cinnamon rolls perfect for breakfast, brunch, or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

Cinnamon Rolls

  • 16 refrigerated cinnamon rolls (icing reserved)

Apple Filling

  • 4 medium apples (peeled, cored, thinly sliced)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons packed brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)

Frosting & Topping

  • 1 cup cream cheese frosting
  • 0.5 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven and Prepare Dish: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13-inch baking dish thoroughly to prevent sticking.
  2. Sauté Apples: In a large skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add the thinly sliced apples along with brown sugar, ground cinnamon, and optional ground nutmeg. Cook for 5 to 7 minutes until the apples are tender and well coated with the spicy-sweet mixture, stirring occasionally.
  3. Layer First Cinnamon Rolls: Flatten half of the refrigerated cinnamon rolls into thinner discs and arrange them evenly in the bottom of the prepared baking dish. This forms the first lasagna layer.
  4. Add Apple Mixture and Frosting: Spoon half of the cooked apple mixture over the flattened cinnamon rolls layer. Drizzle some of the cream cheese frosting over the apples to add creaminess to the layers.
  5. Repeat Layers: Repeat the layering process with the remaining cinnamon rolls flattened, the rest of the apple mixture, and more cream cheese frosting, creating beautiful, distinct layers.
  6. Bake: Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until the cinnamon roll layers are golden brown and the apples are bubbly.
  7. Finish and Serve: Remove the lasagna from the oven. Spread any remaining cream cheese frosting evenly over the top. If desired, sprinkle chopped pecans or walnuts on top for added crunch. Allow it to cool slightly before slicing and serving warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute nutmeg with allspice or cloves for a different spice profile.
  • For a nuttier flavor, use toasted pecans or walnuts.
  • Ensure apples are thinly sliced so they cook evenly during sautéing.
  • This dish is best served warm and fresh but can be refrigerated and gently reheated.
