Description

A spicy and creamy twist on the classic sloppy joe, featuring ground chicken cooked with aromatic Cajun seasoning, sautéed vegetables, and melted cheddar cheese, all served on toasted brioche buns for a deliciously satisfying meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb Ground chicken
  • 1 Small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 Bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 Cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Olive oil
  • 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 cup Chicken broth
  • 1/4 cup Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
  • 4 Brioche or hamburger buns
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/2 tsp Smoked paprika

Instructions

  1. Cook Chicken: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks, about 5-6 minutes.
  2. Sauté Veggies: Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
  3. Season & Simmer: Sprinkle in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to coat the mixture evenly. Pour in the chicken broth and let it simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
  4. Add Cream & Cheese: Pour in the heavy cream and stir until the sauce is smooth. Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring continuously until melted and creamy.
  5. Assemble: Lightly toast the brioche or hamburger buns if desired. Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun, then top with the other half.
  6. Serve Warm: Serve immediately while hot and gooey for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce along with the Cajun seasoning.
  • Ground turkey can be substituted for ground chicken if preferred.
  • To make it lighter, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or milk, but the texture might be less creamy.
  • Brioche buns add a richer flavor and texture, but any sturdy hamburger buns will work.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stove or microwave.
