Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground chicken
- 1 Small onion, finely chopped
- 1 Bell pepper, chopped
- 2 Cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp Olive oil
- 1/2 tsp Cajun seasoning
- 1/2 cup Chicken broth
- 1/4 cup Heavy cream
- 1 cup Shredded cheddar cheese
- 4 Brioche or hamburger buns
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 tsp Smoked paprika
Instructions
- Cook Chicken: In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it up as it cooks, about 5-6 minutes.
- Sauté Veggies: Add chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic to the skillet. Sauté until the vegetables are soft and fragrant, about 3-4 minutes.
- Season & Simmer: Sprinkle in Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to coat the mixture evenly. Pour in the chicken broth and let it simmer for 5 minutes until the mixture thickens slightly.
- Add Cream & Cheese: Pour in the heavy cream and stir until the sauce is smooth. Gradually add the shredded cheddar cheese, stirring continuously until melted and creamy.
- Assemble: Lightly toast the brioche or hamburger buns if desired. Spoon the Cajun chicken mixture generously onto the bottom half of each bun, then top with the other half.
- Serve Warm: Serve immediately while hot and gooey for the best flavor and texture.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper or hot sauce along with the Cajun seasoning.
- Ground turkey can be substituted for ground chicken if preferred.
- To make it lighter, substitute heavy cream with half-and-half or milk, but the texture might be less creamy.
- Brioche buns add a richer flavor and texture, but any sturdy hamburger buns will work.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stove or microwave.
