Ingredients
Scale
Breadcrumb Topping
- 3 Tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Dip
- 16 ounce jar cocktail onions, drained well and chopped
- 8 ounce block cream cheese, softened
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 2 Tablespoons ketchup
- 1 Tablespoon white granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon horseradish
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Prepare the onions. Chop the drained cocktail onions into smaller bite-sized pieces and set aside for mixing into the dip.
- Make the breadcrumb topping. In a skillet over medium heat, melt the unsalted butter. Add panko breadcrumbs along with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, black pepper, and salt. Stir frequently until the breadcrumbs turn golden brown and crispy. Remove from heat and transfer all breadcrumbs to a bowl.
- Separate breadcrumbs. Transfer half of the toasted breadcrumbs into a separate bowl to be used later as a topping.
- Mix the dip base. In the bowl with the remaining breadcrumbs, add softened cream cheese, sour cream, mayonnaise, ketchup, sugar, horseradish, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, oregano, black pepper, salt, cayenne pepper (if using), dried parsley, and chopped onions. Use a hand mixer to blend everything together thoroughly until smooth and well combined.
- Chill the dip (optional). Transfer the mixed dip to a serving bowl. If not serving immediately, cover the bowl with plastic wrap and refrigerate to allow flavors to meld.
- Top and serve. Just before serving, sprinkle the reserved crispy breadcrumb mixture over the top of the dip along with a little extra dried parsley for garnish. Enjoy!
Notes
- For best flavor, refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour before serving.
- Make sure to drain the cocktail onions thoroughly to avoid a watery dip.
- The cayenne pepper is optional and can be adjusted or omitted for less heat.
- To make ahead, prepare the dip base and breadcrumbs separately, then combine and top just before serving.
